Prince Harry Confirms Relationship With Meghan Markle & Bashes Racist Haters
Prince Harry, Queen Elizabeth II’s grandson, has issued an appeal to the press and social-media trolls to end “the wave of abuse and harassment” that has been directed in the past two weeks at his new girlfriend, Hollywood actress Meghan Markle, her friends and family.
Markle, best known for her role as Rachel Zane in U.S. legal drama “Suits,” and Harry, the younger son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, have been dating since June, according to US Weekly, although news of the relationship only began to circulate widely in the past 10 days.
According to a statement issued Tuesday by his communications secretary, Prince Harry is concerned about the racist nature of much of the coverage. Markle is biracial, with a Caucasian father and African-American mother.
In the statement Prince Harry said : "Some of it has been hidden from the public—the nightly legal battles to keep defamatory stories out of papers; her mother having to struggle past photographers in order to get to her front door; the attempts of reporters and photographers to gain illegal entry to her home and the calls to police that followed; the substantial bribes offered by papers to her ex-boyfriend; the bombardment of nearly every friend, co-worker, and loved one in her life."
