Disney Airs First Gay-Cartoon Kiss
A recent episode of the animated Disney XD show Star vs. the Forces of Evil depicts same-sex couples kissing onscreen which as you can imagine has stirred up some major controversy.
Although this isn't the first time a gay couple has been introduced on the Disney Network, this is the first time a gay couple has shared an intimate moment, which is HUGE!
On a 2014 episode of the live-action "Good Luck Charlie," Disney included a character with two moms.
The season-two episode of Star vs. the Forces of Evil , “Just Friends," centers around main characters Star and Marco, both 14, who attend the concert of a boy band (which happens to be called Love Sentence). The boy band start singing to the crowd, and It appears everyone's so overwhelmed by the song that people in the audience start kissing. If you look closely, though, and you'll see what appears to be two males making out, and another shot features what looks like two females. Another plug for diversity is noted by the varying race, age, and body type of the couples.
Disney is also planning to add a "gay moment" in its live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. The director, Bill Condon said that actor Josh Gad plays LeFou — a sidekick to Gaston (Luke Evans) — and that he’s “somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston.”
“He’s confused about what he wants. It’s somebody who’s just realizing that he has these feelings. And Josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it. And that’s what has its payoff at the end, which I don’t want to give away,” Condon continued. “But it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie.”
