USA Beats Japan in FIFA Women's World Cup 2015
Who run the world?! ...
The U.S. women's soccer team that's who! Marking a record third World Cup title, the U.S. Women's National team beat Japan 5-2 at this year's FIFA Women's World Cup final.
The whole world watched on Sunday as U.S. team captain Carli Lloyd scored three goals in the first 16 minutes of the much anticipated game and set a record for the fastest goal. During her interview this morning with the Today's show Matt Lauer, Llloyd said:
"It just didn't feel real, I don't know why. I don't know if it was because of the fashion, how it was a 5-2 game. It was unbelievable and something that we all have wanted for so long. The heartbreak in 2011, losing to Japan, and then this game, it was just an unbelievable moment—something that we'll cherish for the rest of our lives."
Making History. Lloyd is the first woman to score a hat trick in the World Cup final and the third American woman to score that same trick in any World Cup match, joining Michelle Akers and Carin Jennings Gabarra from 1991. Her history making feats don't stop there, Lloyd is also the first American to score goals in four straight World Cup matches.
Celebrity Shout Outs. Lloyd and the rest of the U.S Women's Soccer Team received a lot of praise and congratulatory messages from a host of celebs, one in which included the one-and-only President Barack Obama.The President of the United States personally congratulated the team and even invited them to the White House, tweeting, "What a win for Team USA! Great game @CarliLloyd! Your country is so proud of all of you. Come visit the White House with the World Cup soon."
