Video: People are Talking About Lil Mama's 'Sausage'
Yesterday WorldStar dropped the music video for Lil Mama's comeback track 'Sausage' and let's just say she missed the mark with this one.
Where do we begin- Judging from the responses I've been seeing, I know a lot of people missed the message of the song: PRACTICE SAFE SEX. The message was drowned out by the video's heavy use of choreography, social media trends and musical homages. Specifically, Lil Mama paid tribute to Mary J. Blige by dressing up in a scarf and glasses combo, a look Mary wore in her "Not Gon Cry" hit video. She also copied the singer's iconic singing style with hand movements and all!. She took it a step further when she sampled M.J.B's song "Seven Days" as well as the work of other artists including Fetty Wap's "Trap Queen" and Cheddar Da Connect's "Flicka Da Wrist". Lil Mama also managed to incorporate almost every popular dance into the four-minute video, including the "Nae-Nae" and "The Whip" in conjunction with all of her other off-the wall dance moves.
It's Poppin?!-The video is similar to her debut hit "Lip Gloss" (2007) in that both videos follow similar story lines, where we see Lil Mama taking us though a "typical day" in her life. "Sausage" begins with her break dancing out of the house then to riding through her neighborhood in a lime green transformer to ending the night with a dance off in the middle of a basketball court. See? I told you typical.
The video is all over the place and I wouldn't expect anything else coming from Lil Mama. She accomplished one thing: she got the people talking. Leave a comment below and let me know what you guys think!
